Don’t miss the most popular guy in Portland’s 54th birthday bash, on Thursday, October 6th, at Dante’s, (1 SW Third), 7pm-12am!
John “Elvis” Shroder has been a good friend of BarFly for years now, and it’s BarFly’s pleasure to present his birthday party, once again!
Who is this Elvis, you ask? GO BACK TO CALI.
Elvis is hands-down our burg’s most recognized celebrity – he’s even been on the Tonight Show. Twice! You can’t miss him at Saturday Market, where he’s been performing for twenty-plus years, now, and he’s often out and about, greeting his old fans, and making new ones, wherever he goes.

We’ll kick things off with a full-blown PARADE (all the way from Skidmore Fountain to Dante’s), led by Elvis himself, and his li’l pal, The Unipiper! Meet up at Skidmore Fountain at 6:45pm to join in the f-u-n! Kids are welcome at the parade, of course (but, not at Dante’s – sorry, Charlies!).
Good news for all you working stiffs – the music starts bright and early – at 7pm, at Dante’s!
This year, Portland’s top cover bands come together to celebrate our once and future King! Here’s the line-up (in no particular order – check back day-of for exact(ish) line-up):
Kinked (The Kinks!)
Johnny Credit and the Cash Machine (Johnny Cash!)
Giant Bug Village (Guided By Voices!)
The Hauer Things (Classic Psychedelia!)
The Mean Reds (All-Gal Garage Covers!)
Be sure to get there early, or you’ll miss the special performance by Portland’s celebrated Unipiper, kicking things off with a parade from Skidmore Fountain, to Dante’s, led by The King, himself, at 6:45pm, sharp.
Naturally, Elvis will be joining each of the bands on stage, singing some of his top hits. He’ll also be doing a fun trivia contest with fabulous prizes from Voodoo Doughnut and BarFly Bus Tours!
Bonus: Miss Jen Lane of BarFly fame emcees and dance parties it up between bands, as everybody’s favorite DJ Meow.
Note: You may not recognize Elvis at his birthday party, as style maven, Angela Baldwin, is giving Elvis a make-over in her Concrete Cloud Studio, just before the festivities begin!
Elvis’s Birthday Party is open to anyone 21 or older. A very special birthday cake and Voodoo Doughnuts will be served.

Don’t forget to bring a present for The King! Cash donations to the Elvis Fund will be accepted at the door (suggested $5 minimum/person). He also enjoys Disney and Star Wars memorabilia, trivia books and games, and movies and music of all kinds, too.
The fabulous Dante’s is conveniently located at the corner of SW Third and Burnside, in beautiful, downtown Portland.
